MASKED RIDER SCISSORS

GD-64 Kamen Rider Scissors was released by Bandai in July of 2004 along with GD-63 Kamen Rider Ryuki. The two figures were follow up to the two Faiz Riders released previous month that marked the come back of the Souchaku Henshin series. Scissors came from 2002 Masked Rider Ryuki TV series. The show was one of the more controversial as it departed greatly from the standard Masked Rider in both the story and character designs. Masked Rider Scissors was one of the many Masked Riders that appeared in the show. He was not the main one and was eliminated early in the series actually, so it was rather nice to see Bandai decided to make SH figures of him. The Riders from Ryuki had the metallic grill face plate design (Scissors also had this grill face plate, but his was just obscured by the two pincher visor that ran across his face) The Riders transformed using set of card (called Advent Card) in a card case that inserted into their V-Buckle (their henshin belts). Each Riders also swore companionship (contract) with his or her animal monster that the knight represented. (You can see already why this was the most controversial Rider series and yes I mean her there was even a first ever female Masked Rider in the franchise 30 years history). Scissors contracted monster was Volcancer, a crab monster. Like other modern Riders, Scissors heavy armored design was well suited for the Souchaku Henshin series.

The core body for Scissors and Ryuki, like that of Faiz SH series had been extensively retooled with arms and legs remolded specifically for this series. Bandai had really re-engineered and tweak the SH format using what they learn from other toy series they produced and it showed in the over-all figures looks. One of the part that had been greatly improved on the 2004 core body was the metal ball joints for the feet. This allowed for better pose ability for these 2004 figures. Scissors helmet design made for some very intricate molding and Bandai did an excellent job. Regardless of how you feel about Ryuki series, there definitely do doubt that these SH figures were very well made and represented some of the best looking figures to come out for the Souchaku Henshin line. It was rather nice to see Bandai put this much details into the older series, and I can't wait to see what figures will be next. (Bandai already announced two more from Ryuki - Raia and Knight.)

GD-64 Souchaku Henshin Series Masked Rider Scissors

Bandai released GD-64 in July of 2004. Ryuki along with Scissors were the second series of SH toys released by Bandai since the return of the series. The toy came package in the new 2004 style window box.

Unmasked Mode

Like other SH Riders figures, the human body underneath can look out of proportion and was solely intended for display with the "cloth" (Rider's Armor) on. The core body was similar in style as the body used since the original Saint Seiya Cloth line, however for the 2004 SH line, Bandai had retooled the body to make it more modern. While the head still appear too small due to having to accommodate the mask, this removable "armor suit" gimmick, however, was the main aspect that drawn me to this line. The ability to "henshin" into the Rider form made these SH figure a lot like small version of Henshin Cyborg or the RAH costume hero.

The figure can be display with the "masked" removed and show a human head.

 Vent Accessories

SH Scissors came with several weapons including Scissors Pincher (Strike Vent), Shell Defense (Guard Vent) and his Scissors Visor (that also double up as his primary pincher weapon.)

Bandai even included miniature Advent Cards made from plastic and sticker sheet. In the show, Riders would inserted these Advent cards into their Visor, a card activator, to use their weapons or special attack.

Scissors and his various Advent cards power-up. Top Guard Vent gave Scissors his Shell Defense shield that plug into his left wrist. Bottom - Strike Vent gave Scissors his Scissors Pincher.
